Development of family activity packs for Castle Ward and Murlough, National Trust Properties in County Down
Tracker Packs are bags containing interactive activities that families can borrow when they visit National Trust properties. The activities are supported by props which introduce a tactile element. Kenera Consultant, Shirley Lennon, developed an innovative pack for Castle Ward that was chosen as an example of good practice across National Trust Properties.

There were some very specific and clear learning outcomes from the packs, for example, learning how to read a map, learning about a second hidden house or about insect habitats, learning to cooperate etc. Packs were spanning the generic learning outcomes. Visitors were not just acquiring knowledge, they were learning new skills, being motivated to do something or being inspired.
To what extent do they promote family learning?
100% of families said that the Packs helped them to ‘learn more’.
45% of families did all or most of the pack with adults and children together.
